Animal Habitats Online Activity

In class today, we learned about animal habitats. Every animal has a habitat, or environment, that is best for the kind of body they have and the food they need to eat. Not all animals are able to live in the same kinds of habitats.

Please take three quizzes about animal habitats here. You may choose any three habitats you want to take a quiz on. Write the name of the habitat and the score you got for the three different kinds of habitats.

After you finish your three quizzes, I want you to play the Build a Habitat Game. In this game, you can create a habitat that is best for the animal that you choose. You may choose between a beaver, lizard, polar bear, manatee, and a human.

When you are finished, please print screen your finished animal habitat and write three sentences telling why the habitat you made would be good for that animal. Bring the pictures and your writing to school on Friday with your homework. I will be look to see if you are able to create a good habitat for the animal that you chose.

Have fun!

* This activity addresses First Grade California Life Sciences Standard 2a: Students know different plants and animals inhabit different kinds of environments and have external features that help them thrive in different kinds of places.

Hi Alisa,

I love how your blog extends the classroom learning. The activities engage the students and provide an element of choice because you allow them to select the habitats they wish to take quizzes on. Your activities also allow each student to be creative and apply their learning by creating their own habitat. This activity will definitely show if the student understands the connection between an animal and its environment. Your activities fit very nicely with an upcoming unit that I will be teaching for third grade. Thanks for sharing!
